I am preparing on purchasing my very very first laptop and was just questioning if I'm the right track.

If you want a very good laptop which will operate each time you swap it on, a laptop computer that will be reliable and maintain it can be resale appeal I would get a macbook. For a equivalent price you could get the macbook which will be quicker simply because it runs Mac OS X 10.6. Mac OS X never will get viruses not like windows. It's also quite unusual for a mac laptop or computer to seize or "crash". You can get a macbook for £845 which will perform far much better than the DELL. Do not get the older macbook (2008) simply because it had problems with overheating and cracking - I use to have one. Then apple created an aluminium macbook in 2009 which is fantastic but they will not make that a single anymore but you could uncover 1 off ebay which will function just as good as the more recent 1 (2009).

Mac is also simple to use! There are loads of excellent applications that function for mac and if you have a system that only operates for windows you can use "BootCamp" so you can duel boot in windows!

A Mac can operate Mac AND windows. You could just emulate windows using VMware or Parallels.
