if there was some other innovative way of tracking it down myself prior to it will get reconfigured or refurbished or whichever? I have a movement sensor digital camera built in if that might aid. Make sure you advise. Thank you.

nope, if there was the police wud have theft cracked, The only opportunity you have is if they link it to the internet and you trace your laptop's MAC address, but even then acquiring a place would be tough and theres more to it than just looking for your MAC deal with. Just becoming blunt here....NO
